Captain Andreas B. Heide is a marine biologist and adventurer from Stavanger, Norway.
Inspired by Sir David Attenborough, Jaques Cousteau and Fridtjof Nansen, Andreas works with scientists and conservationists, photographers and drone pilots, to underline the importance of conservation in the extreme north, under the most challenging conditions.
Exploring on his sailing vessel Barba (a 2005 model Jeanneau Sun Fast 37), Andreas and his team has covered thousands of nautical miles under sail in the Arctic circle, as far north as the ice-packs surrounding the pole.
Self-sufficient and powered by the wind, S.V. Barba has enabled unique scientific research and close interactions with marine wildlife. Barba’s current focus is on studying Arctic whale populations, as well as the impacts of global warming and plastic pollution at sea.
“We chose Henri-Lloyd to become the project’s technical clothing partner because of the brand’s proven excellent performance and forward-looking approach to sustainability by using genuinely recycled materials and adopting new fabrics that eliminate the use of dangerous chemicals, such as perfluorocarbons (PFC) and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).”
Key Achievements:
Twice nominated for the prestigious Shackleton Award for the protection of the polar regions.
Completed numerous expeditions on S.V. Barba including: Arctic Sense 2021 and 2023, 2016-2020 Orcas Arctic Norway, 2019 Iceland and 2015 Svalbard circumnavigation.
