Nestor Montagu

Nestor Montagu learnt to sail dinghies at seven years old and has been drawn offshore ever since. Over recent years, that progression has taken him from club racing in Weymouth to offshore racing with RORC and JOG, alongside extended cruising and endurance passages around the British coastline. Now on his gap year, Nestor is preparing for his biggest challenge yet aboard his 1984 Sadler 26,Sciuma, a boat he has extensively refitted himself ahead of departure.

From spring through to late summer 2026, Nestor will attempt to circumnavigate the entirety of Britain outside of the Caledonian Canal, aiming to become the youngest skipper to complete the route at just 19 years old.

The voyage will take approximately three and a half months and will be documented as a long-form video series across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, capturing the realities of offshore sailing around Britain’s coastline. From strong tides and exposed passages to remote harbours and changing weather systems, the campaign focuses on the challenge and discipline required to sail offshore in demanding conditions.

Alongside the sailing challenge itself, the project aims to raise £10,000 for the Blue Marine Foundation and the National Independent Lifeboat Association, with visits planned to independent lifeboat stations and marine protected areas throughout the voyage.

Having recently passed his Yachtmaster Offshore exam, the campaign marks the beginning of a much larger offshore journey for Nestor and Sciuma, combining endurance sailing, storytelling and a deeper connection to Britain’s coastline and maritime communities.
