Oliver Heer Unveils New IMOCA Embrace The Challenge Ahead of The Ocean Race Atlantic

Swiss offshore sailor Oliver Heer has officially unveiled his new IMOCA campaign, Embrace The Challenge.

After years of relentless preparation, thousands of offshore miles and a remarkable Vendée Globe journey, Swiss offshore sailor Oliver Heer has officially unveiled his new IMOCA campaign, Embrace The Challenge.

The campaign marks the beginning of a powerful new chapter ahead of The Ocean Race Atlantic, pairing one of offshore sailing’s most resilient competitors with a bold visual identity shaped by the forces that define life at sea.

More than just the name on the hull, Embrace The Challenge reflects a philosophy that has become central to Heer’s approach to offshore racing. One built around resilience, adaptability and the ability to keep moving forward through uncertainty.

The concept emerged from the demanding road to the 2024 Vendée Globe, where setbacks, technical challenges and relentless qualification miles became defining moments in the campaign.

“When we looked back at our previous campaign, it became clear that people strongly associated me with a positive mindset,” Heer explained.

“That’s a very authentic reflection of who I am. Even in difficult moments, I’m always looking for opportunities where others might only see adversity.

The name came to us quite naturally. Embrace The Challenge perfectly describes offshore sailing, but it’s also a philosophy for everyday life.”

A Design Shaped by the Southern Ocean

The IMOCA’s striking new livery takes inspiration from isobars, the pressure lines found on weather charts that shape conditions across the world’s oceans.

For offshore sailors, weather is everything. It dictates strategy, speed, positioning and survival. In the Southern Ocean especially, understanding pressure systems can define an entire race.

The flowing graphic lines across the hull reflect both the movement of weather and the invisible pressures that come with competing at the highest level of offshore racing.

“The design comes from a weather system in the Southern Ocean,” said Heer.

“For sailors, there’s nothing more important than the weather. The lines represent pressure systems, but it’s not just about reading isobars. It’s about understanding pressure and dealing with pressure.”

The boat itself also represents a major step forward for the campaign. Previously raced at the highest level of IMOCA competition, the platform gives Heer and his team an opportunity to build on the experience gained during the Vendée Globe while pushing performance further ahead of future ocean races.

100 Days to Race Mode

With just over 100 days remaining until the start of The Ocean Race Atlantic, the focus now turns entirely to time on the water.

The coming months will centre around commissioning, testing and a structured handover programme with former skipper Justine Mettraux, helping Heer and the team unlock the full potential of the IMOCA as quickly as possible.

“My focus now is solely on sailing,” Heer said.

“We need to learn the boat and build confidence so we can deliver a strong performance.”

For The Ocean Race Atlantic, Heer will be joined by an experienced international crew including Marie Riou, offshore racing veteran Liz Wardley and performance analyst Lincoln Dews.

Together, the team enters a new phase with one clear objective: to keep learning, keep progressing and continue building toward the next horizon.

A New Chapter Begins

Embrace The Challenge is more than the launch of a new IMOCA campaign.

It is the continuation of a journey built through sacrifice, resilience and an unwavering belief in moving forward, even when conditions are at their hardest.

The boat is in the water. The countdown is on.

And with the start of The Ocean Race Atlantic fast approaching, Oliver Heer and his team are ready for what comes next.

Because offshore racing has never been about waiting for perfect conditions.

It has always been about embracing the challenge.
