Mara

Mara’s route to the sea has never followed a conventional course. A former athlete and lifelong adventurer, she has spent recent years living aboard her sailboat, shaped by long passages, solitude, and the realities of life offshore. Drawn to challenge rather than comfort, Mara approaches sailing not as competition alone, but as a way of stripping life back to its essentials. From Pacific crossings to solo Atlantic miles, her sailing is defined by resilience, instinct, and a deep connection to the freedom found beyond the horizon. Whether navigating by stars and sextant or embracing the routines of life at sea, she represents a new generation of offshore sailor driven as much by curiosity and endurance as performance itself.

Having now officially qualified for the next edition of the Golden Globe Race, Mara’s focus turns towards one of sailing’s most demanding challenges. Sailing solo, non-stop around the world using only traditional navigation methods, the race covers approximately 30,000 nautical miles over close to 270 days at sea, without modern technology or outside assistance. Her goal is not simply to complete the race, but to fully embrace the experience of life offshore at its most raw and self-reliant. Following years of ocean sailing and her first solo Atlantic crossing, the Golden Globe Race marks the next chapter in a journey defined by endurance, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the sea.
