Andrew Simpson Foundation

Supporting Access to Sailing at Every Level

Founded in memory of Olympic sailor Andrew Simpson, the Andrew Simpson Foundation has become one of the UK’s leading charities dedicated to increasing participation in sailing and watersports.

Henri-Lloyd is proud to support The Andrew Simpson Foundation as its Official Clothing Partner, reinforcing a long-standing commitment to grassroots sailing, coaching excellence, and opening pathways for the next generation of sailors. Through this three-year partnership, Henri-Lloyd supports the Foundation’s centres, yachting programmes, and Performance Academy with technical marine apparel, helping those who teach, train, and inspire others on the water.

This partnership reflects a shared belief: sailing should be more accessible, more inclusive, and available to everyone, regardless of background, geography, or financial circumstance.

About The Andrew Simpson Foundation

Established in 2013, the Andrew Simpson Foundation was created to honour the legacy of Andrew “Bart” Simpson and to transform lives through sailing.

Since its inception, the Foundation has helped more than 250,000 people access the water through sailing initiatives, outreach programmes, and community projects designed to break down barriers to participation.

Today, the Foundation operates across the UK through not-for-profit sailing centres, partner centres, and a wider network that includes schools, youth services, faith groups, and the Royal Naval community. Its international reach extends through global initiatives such as Bart's Bash, helping connect sailors around the world. The organisation focuses on environmental learning, conservation, and creating sustainable, climate-aware coastal communities alongside participation pathways.

With more than £20 million invested directly into coastal and waterside communities, the Foundation continues to create access points into the sport for young people from all backgrounds.

Andrew Simpson Yachting

Andrew Simpson Yachting is the Foundation’s not-for-profit yachting and training arm, offering practical and shore-based RYA training from its base at Haslar Marina, positioned at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.

From complete beginners to aspiring professional skippers, Andrew Simpson Yachting offers:

  • Practical yacht training
  • Powerboat instruction
  • Mile builders
  • Instructor training
  • Shore-based theory courses
  • Own-boat tuition
  • Career pathway programmes

Its Solent location provides one of the best training grounds in the UK, with immediate access to tidal waters, harbours, commercial traffic, offshore passages, and cross-channel routes to France and the Channel Islands. The Andrew Simpson Foundation Performance Academy provides a structured pathway for ambitious young sailors looking to progress from participation into performance sailing.

The Academy supports athlete development through high-performance coaching, competitive progression, and professional development opportunities, helping talented sailors move closer to elite-level competition while maintaining the Foundation’s core focus on accessibility and opportunity.

It represents a vital bridge between grassroots introduction and high-performance progression, ensuring talent is supported regardless of background.

Shared Values & Why This Partnership Exists

Henri-Lloyd and the Andrew Simpson Foundation are united by a shared ambition: to champion the future of sailing.

Both organisations believe that technical performance should support human potential, whether that means elite offshore racing, youth sailing development, instructor training, or first-time experiences on the water.

The Foundation creates structured pathways that extend far beyond recreational sailing, building confidence, life skills, education opportunities, instructor training, and careers within the marine industry. Henri-Lloyd shares that same purpose through its long-standing support of grassroots sailing and the communities that sustain the sport.

This partnership is not simply about clothing. It is about enabling progress, building confidence, and supporting those shaping the next generation of sailors.

What Henri-Lloyd Provides

As Official Clothing Partner, Henri-Lloyd equips all shore and water-based teams across the Foundation with technical marine apparel engineered for protection, comfort, and performance.

This includes:

  • Technical marine apparel for instructors, coaches, staff, and volunteers
  • Branded Henri-Lloyd clothing worn on shore, at events, and when representing the Foundation
  • Performance outerwear available for participants using the Foundation’s Jeanneau 38.9 training yacht based in Gosport
  • Sign-up codes providing beneficial pricing for course participants
  • Product support for competitions, raffles, and community initiatives
  • Joint marketing campaigns and storytelling content
  • Awareness-building and fundraising support across Foundation programmes

This ensures those delivering sailing instruction and opportunities can do so equipped with professional-grade technical apparel designed for life on and beyond the water.

Community Impact in Action

The strength of this partnership lies in participation.

By supporting instructors, centres, youth programmes, and outreach initiatives, Henri-Lloyd helps remove barriers that prevent people from accessing sailing and watersports.

From community sailing initiatives and schools outreach to instructor pathways and professional development, the partnership supports the people creating meaningful long-term change within the sport.

At every level, from first experiences on the water to elite progression, the goal remains the same: making sailing more accessible and more sustainable for the future.
